Shrine painting of Madre de Agua (Mother of Water), seated at the shore,
against a semi-abstract landscape of mountains, forest, and rural Cuban
habitation (bohío). Madre de Agua sits at the confluence
of two waters, the river and sea. Dressed in blue and accompanied by a
duck and water serpent (majá), Madre de Agua shares iconography
with the Lukumí orisha Yemayá. The serpent entwines itself
around her blue painted terracotta tinaja, an nganga.
